First Spiritual Law - The First (1st) Commandment - Don't Follow Yourself

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

(Exodus 20:3)

The most greatest commandments of God. Idolatry was forbidden by God. But did you know that this Biblical quotes or the first law has more deeper meaning on spiritual wisdom.

Do not worship other god doesn't mean worshiping images or stones like what you have learned in your religious study. Although this was the basic and literal knowledge on the Bible about worshiping images and idols created by the hand of man, but now we are continuing to know deeper meaning about worshiping other god according to Spirit.

What is God (with capital letter "G")

God is the one who worship by man. He is the Creator of all things. God is the true image of man, because in His own image man got created.

From the description above we can now understand that any man can be a God, and if that so, man who worship man will fall under the first spiritual law. Let us look what the Bible verse said about this,

"Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:"

(Colossians 3:5)

Following earthly pleasure are equivalent to worshiping idols and following other god (which means, following yourself). So they who that follow their own self and not following the will of God is doing idolatry and worshiping of other god fall under the first law written on the Book of God and the judgement of God on them is this,

"Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens."

(Jeremiah 10:11)

So be aware and be careful on following your own self and doing what you want to do.

Additional Biblical Fact

The first commandment is also the greatest commandment on the law.

"Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. "

(Matthew 22:36-38)
